Casa Madragoa
Madragoa is one of the most typical “bairro’s” (districts) of Lisbon, whose name derives from Convent of the Morthers of Goa, that is…………what they say, but no one is sure. Before the big earthquake in Lisbon on the 1st of November 1750, this area was called Mocambo, an African name given by the people that lived there who had an African origin.
Everything changes, so did this district. In the 18th and 19th century Madragoa was a fisher-town and most of the people that lived here, worked at or near sea. They say, you can still here the women cry when their husbands went out to catch some fish.
But the change has stopped some time and that is what you can still see in Madragoa. It is now a district of Lisbon, very close the heart of the city centre (only a 15 minutes walk). The streets are very narrow, the houses very small and the people very, very nice.

Typical Madragoa
This district has all the ingredients of a real, genuine Lisbonese district. When you walk from Casa Madragoa, the smell of Portuguese coffee, the little canary’s in their cages hanging beside the windows, the little restaurants and shops, will give you the ultimate Lisbon experience. You can walk from Madragoa in 15 minutes via nice small streets to the heart of this South European capital.
Casa Madragoa is in the heart of Madragoa and is an stylish and authentic building, in line with the rest of the neighbourhood. The apartments inside the house are recently renovated and very comfortably furnished.
Enjoy Casa Madragoa, enjoy Madragoa, enjoy Lisbon
